Seriously Swedish Sounds
Not often does one pedal define a sound, much less an entire genre, but that’s exactly what the classic black and orange Japanese pedal did. The 90s Swedish Death Metal scene, with that signature buzzsaw tone and d-beat drumming, set itself apart from all genres of heavy music at that time, and still does to this day. Problem with getting that sound? It required a (often poor) buffered bypass AND 12V of power to run it, whilst having the mids and treble both affected by the treble control, a pain when searching for sounds other than buzzsaw like tones. However…
Enter the SM-2 – a redefined version of that pedal with all you need and none of what you don’t. “Away with the poor bypassed tone, away with the odd power supply!” the old Vikings declare, “In with a dedicated mids control, in with even heavier goodness!” Compared to the old units, the SM-2 now gives more, whilst taking nothing away from the iconic circuit.
Running off a standard 9V power supply would help loads in tidying things up administratively while splitting the mids and treble into 2 separate knobs, each centered at 600Hz and 1.2kHz respectively, give an unprecedented level of control not found on the old units. Furthermore, centering the bass frequency at 60Hz now lets the pedal be used with bass and heavy drop-tuned guitars, keeping that precious low-end intact, unlike so many pedals with the bass frequency centered at 100Hz and above. Bassists and down-tuned guitarists alike would gape in awe at the extended frequency range, all with that classic chainsaw top end available in the treble knob. Massive low end with a killer chainsaw top.
Each pedal is designed specifically to minimize circuit noise (a key factor with heavy music) and is completely true bypass. Furthermore, each unit is individually screen-printed, hand-crafted, and tested one unit at a time in Oregon. USA.
Level: Overall output level. Counter-clockwise for less, clockwise for more.
Bass: +/- 20dB centered at 60Hz. Counter-clockwise for cut, clockwise for boost.
Mid: +/- 20dB centered at 600Hz. Counter-clockwise for cut, clockwise for boost.
Treble: +/- 20dB centered at 1.2kHz. Counter-clockwise for cut, clockwise for boost.
Gain: Adjust amount of overall gain in the circuit.
Use of an isolated 9 volt, center negative (-) DC power supply is recommended for optimal performance.
